sheJAMs Women’s Triathlon Club
Group triathlon training for women of all fitness levels in Southern Maine.
Where Training Meets Community
sheJAMs is a USAT sanctioned triathlon club for women that promotes a well rounded training routine to help you build sustainable training habits for a lifetime of movement. We provide a welcoming environment where you can enjoy in-person group training in the Greater Portland Maine area with like-minded and encouraging women of ALL fitness levels. No matter what your next goal is, you will have a team of women to celebrate your wins and tackle challenges with.
We are dedicated to creating an opportunity for you to build strength, gain confidence, grow as an athlete, and make new friends in the process.
Ways to Train with sheJAMs
Winter Swim
Our Winter swim program is designed to improve or maintain your swim skills and fitness during the off session. Our coach will work with you to not only build swim confidence but improve freestyle stroke and breathing technique, speed, and endurance. This swim program will have weekly group instruction with an experienced swim coach. Participants should feel comfortable swimming 4 lengths of the pool from one end of the pool to the other. All levels are included.
Triathlon Group Training
Our 13-week women’s triathlon training program focuses on triathlon, swimming, biking, running and strength training with the opportunity to improve general fitness and skills for whatever goal you want to accomplish. We specialize in helping women train for Maine’s All Women Triathlon Tri for a Cure, but these skills can be applied to any sprint or olympic distance triathlon you are training for. You can choose to join all three disciplines or select the program that best fits what you are looking for.
Membership
As a member, you will not only be a part of an amazing group of women but will gain access to numerous online and local business discounts. Additionally you will receive discounts to our training programs, educational workshops and socials. By becoming a member, there is no obligation to sign up for group training. With our membership, we want to create more year-round opportunities for the group to get together and remain active even in the off-season.
Strength Training
Strength training plays an integral part in your training, performance, and quality of life (especially as we age!) Although there isn’t a sheJAMs specific strength class, we wanted to share with you strength training options available in the community that are offering sheJAMs members a discount to their services!
Workshops and Socials
In addition to providing training programs it is our goal to provide times throughout the year for you to learn and socialize with your fellow sheJAMers. This will be a combination of triathlon prep and fun activities that are completely unrelated to triathlon! We are in the process of putting together our 2026 schedule so stay tuned. If you want to be the first to know about events, join our newsletter!
Our Story
SheJAMs was created by three friends Julie, Andrea and Melissa in early 2010. The goal was to foster a community of women of all ages and abilities who want to be active and meet like-minded women.
sheJAMs provides a fun, supportive and accepting environment for women to train, learn and socialize together. If you are looking for a way to get stronger, feel more confident, and maintain an active lifestyle, then look no further.
You don’t have to be a seasoned athlete to join in the fun! You can work out or train as easily or intensely as you want. You will always find someone who is at a similar level! Come share your love of the outdoors and an active lifestyle with sheJAMs! ALL levels of experience and ability are WELCOME!
sheJAMs is more than just connecting women, staying active, and having fun. It’s about giving back to the communities that we live in and supporting women and women’s causes. sheJAMS has been a sponsor and partner with Maine Cancer Foundation for the Tri for A Cure since 2010 and will continue to support their crucial efforts to make a difference in the lives of Mainers who are navigating Cancer.
In 2025, ownership turned over to Danielle Kroot to carry on the sheJAMs legacy and continue to grow a community of motivated and supportive women. Danielle is Doctor of Physical Therapy, run and triathlon coach, proud mama of 3 amazing kiddos, and the owner of Starting Line Physical Therapy and Fitness Hub. Being a marathon runner and triathlete herself, Danielle enjoys being able to relate to endurance athletes, whether it’s dealing with a challenging training block, navigating injury, or celebrating the amazing wins. She’s been there too.
Danielle is extremely passionate about educating the endurance community and providing them with the tools to succeed. She is a firm believer that anything is possible (no matter your age) with the right game plan to guide you and the determination to reach your true potential!
Our Coaches
-
Coreen has been a member of the Greater Portland running community for 40+ years. In late 2006 while hiking near her home she had an unexpected fall resulting in a mild traumatic brain injury. Following her accident she spent a year in rehabilitation at New England Rehab where she focused on learning new ways to think and deal with life’s every day challenges. Following her rehabilitation she reconnected with the Maine running community and started an all women walk to run program. Through her own experiences she is able to talk first hand with women about new beginnings and starting over. Coreen's strengths in coaching are identifying and removing barriers and setting realistic, attainable goals for herself and her athletes.

Gwen lives in Scarborough with her husband, Ken, and 2 beloved dogs. As physical therapist, health care lawyer and long time runner, she has always been passionate about exercise. She is a breast cancer survivor since 2010 and became a triathlete in 2018 at age 55 when she participated in her first Tri for a Cure. The support and camaraderie with sheJAMs women changed her life! Gwen has completed several Ironman 70.3 races since 2021 and she is now a USAT Level 1 coach. She incorporates her physical therapy expertise and experience managing her own aging athlete injuries into her training approach. “The right training (and sometimes less training) helps you get the most out of your training!”

Linda lives in Kennebunkport and was a competitive swimmer for nearly 15 years, including D1 at Bucknell. She got turned on to triathlons in 1989 and after a hiatus with career and kids, re-entered the sport around 2010. Linda qualified for Worlds 70.3 and had a top 6 AG (45-49) Ironman finish at Tremblant 140.6. Then menopause and a deteriorating hip had other plans, so she pivoted back to swimming until she got a bionic hip in 2022. Linda has completed 3 ten mile swims in the past 3 years, including from Corsica, France to Sardinia, Italy. This will be Linda's third year to work with sheJAMS and second year as the head swim coach. She has added USAT Triathlon Coaching Certification to her resume and is excited to help everyone improve their swim technique and get comfortable with open water swimming.
